Abstract

1,204,156. Bearings. NADELLA, and A. PITNER. 5 Oct., 1967 [15 Nov., 1966], No. 45350/67. Heading F2A. In a roller bearing the space between the races is reduced in a number of angularly-spaced zones by radially deforming in one direction one of the races, said zones either abut an elasticcally-yieldable support or are free between two support points on a rigid support. In an embodiment a roller bearing comprises a steel outer race 1 the thickness of which is less than the diameter of the rollers and which is mounted in an elastically-yieldable annular support steel support 2, and rollers 3 which are positioned between the outer race 1 and a shaft 7 mounted within the bearing. The race 1 engages the support 2 at deformed zones a, b and c where the clearance between the races is a minimum. Undeformed zones d, e and f are provided intermediate said zones a, b and c where the clearance between the races is a maximum. In other embodiments the support 2 is mounted in a bore of a rigid support, the support 2 is made of elastomer material, and the race 1 is pre-formed with inwardly-offset zones.
