Abstract

1354312 Bearings TORRINGTON CO 10 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 13952/71 Heading F2A A roller bearing assembly comprises an annular outer member defining an outer race surface, an inner member defining an inner race surface, and a plurality of rollers interposed between said race surfaces, said outer and inner members being such as to produce, in combination with solid rollers, a roller bearing assembly having significantly inferior runout characteristics, the rollers being hollow and oversized so as to be radially preloaded between said race surfaces to accommodate manufacturing inaccuracies in the members. The hollowness of the rollers is from 50-81%. Each roller may have a double tapered bore having a minimum diameter substantially at the axial centre of the roller.
