Abstract

Dyestuffs of the anthraquinone series are made by reacting an anthraquinone derivative containing at least one sulphonic acid chloride group with a b - or g -chloro- or bromo-alkylamine which contains up to 4 carbon atoms, or by reacting the hydroxyl groups of the hydroxyalkyl radicals in anthraquinone derivatives which contain b - or g -hydroxyalkyl sulphonic acid amide groups with up to 4 carbon atoms in the alkylene group with chlorinating or brominating agents. The invention further comprises dyestuffs of the formula:- <FORM:0868743/IV(c)/1> where A is hydrogen, -NH2 or -NH.Z2, Y is hydrogen or -SO3H1 Z1 is -Ar SO2 X, <FORM:0868743/IV(c)/2> and D is hydrogen or -NHZ2 and wherein Z2 is <FORM:0868743/IV(c)/3> Ar is an aromatic radical free from carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid ester groups and which contains up to two benzene nuclei, and X is a chloro-or bromo-alkyl-amino radical which contains up to 4 carbon atoms. The dyestuffs dye animal fibres and fibres of linear polyamides and linear-polyurethanes and dye and print textile goods of natural and/or regenerated cellulose in conjunction with an alkali and heat treatment to give blue, green, orange, red, violet and currant shades.
