Abstract

868,615. Automatic gramophones. FOSTER-MALLARD Ltd. Sept. 4, 1959 [July 25, 1958], No. 24014/58. Class 40 (2). A centre-post for a record-changing gramophone which plays both sides of the stacked records has upper and lower parts 15, 16 concentric with the turn-table and an intermediate oblique part 17 forming a step 18 for the records. A stem 27, operated by the automatic control means raises a keeper 20 clear of the lowermost record 31 and then rocks a finger 24 into the Fig. 3 position, in which the record 31 is pushed over the edge of the step 18 and is caught up on the bulge 32, the keeper preventing any other record from following. On return to the Fig. 2 position, the record is freed to slide down to the turn-table as shown dotted. The centre-post turns with the turntable and the keeper 20, acting as a key, rotates an additional turn-table 41 against which the stacked records are pressed. On reversal of the turn-table drive, an additional stylus engages the underside of the lowest record and plays it before it is dropped to the main turn-table for playing the upper side.
