[Also in Group' XII] A device for producing fibres from glass rods or tubes comprises heating compartments 9 for rows of rods &c. 4 extending through a guide member 5 and disposed between electric radiating elements 2, 2a seated on support members 3, 3a. The assembly is completed by a ceramic lining 1 and a sheet metal framework 12. The elements 2, 2a, e.g. of chromium-nickel alloy, may be in the form of bars or may be spirals positioned on quartz glass rods 11, and the support members 3, 3a may also be positioned by rods 10. The current supplied to pairs of heating elements may be controlled by variable transformers, Fig. 5 (not shown).
