Some of a suspension of solids in liquid fed to the left hand end of a trough 1, Fig. 1, passes through a pair of vertical slots or ports 5a and then flows obliquely between sloping plates 6a and 7, Fig. 2, into a distributer 8 having a discharge slot 9 extending the full width of a screening deck 10a. Similar feeding arrangements are provided for four more screening decks of which the last, 10e, is shown. A body 12, Fig. 1, by effecting progressive reduction of the trough width, ensures a uniform depth of suspension from the entrance to at least the penultimate pair of ports. The number of decks need be no more than two. Specifications 791,520, 791,857, 791,858, 791,859 and 864,594 are referred to.
