Abstract

868,518. Refrigerating. BRIDGESTONE TIRE KABUSHIKI KAISHA. April 21, 1959, No. 13521/59. Class 29 Refrigeration is obtained from liquefied gas at low temperature such as liquid methane, by passing it from a reservoir 15 firstly through a pump 16 to compress it. in the liquid state, then through heat exchangers 17, 18, to raise its temperature, expanding it to atmospheric pressure in stages in an adiabatic expansion engine 25 so as to obtain power and taking out refrigeration between each stage by heat exchangers 19 and finally passing the gas out of the system through a heat exchanger 20. The large amount of refrigeration obtained from heat exchanger 17 may be used to liquefy another gas, such as ethane, which is compressed in a pump 32, heated in a heat exchanger 27 and expanded in stages in an adiabatic expansion engine 33 so as to obtain power, refrigeration being taken out between each stage by heat exchangers 28. The ethane is then recirculated to the heat exchanger 29.
