Abstract
In a nuclear power plant, the gaseous working fluid is heated in the reactor 1 and expanded in the turbine 2 driving the alternator 3. The low pressure fluid leaving the turbine is divided into two separate streams, one of which is condensed, and reconverted to a gas before return to the reactor. The condensation is at the vicinity of the thermodynical critical point. From the regenerative heat exchanger 4 the turbine exhaust passes into compressor 6 from which one output flows to the condenser 7 and a second, in the gas phase, to the exchanger 4 where it is heated and returned to 1. The liquid output from 7 is circulated by pump 8 through the exchanger 4, in the supercritical region, is vaporized, and returned to the reactor by pump 9. The reactor may be of the fast breeder type, using carbon dioxide or sulphur dioxide as the working fluid.
