Abstract
A blend of synthetic polybutadiene and natural rubber or a copolymer of butadiene and styrene, which when vulcanized has good hysteresis properties, low heat build-up, good flex life and high tensile strength, comprises at least 10 parts, per 100 parts of the blend, of natural rubber or the said copolymer, the remainder being a polybutadiene containing at least 75% cis-1, 4-butadiene addition. The blend may have Mooney ML-4 viscosity (explained in the Specification) of 10-130 at 212 DEG F. Formulations vulcanized according to Example I are of the polybutadiene, smoke sheet, HAF black, zinc oxide, stearic acid, an antioxidant containing a diarylamineketone reaction product and N, N1-diphenyl -p-phenylenediamine, disproportionated rosin, pine tar, sulphur and n-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazole sulphenamide. Formulations vulcanized according to Example II are of the polybutadiene, smoked sheet, HAF black, zinc oxide, stearic acid, the same antioxidant as for Example I, disproportionated rosin, sulphur, n-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazole sulphenamide and an aromatic petroleum oil plasticizer. Formulations vulcanized according to Example V are of the polybutadiene, natural rubber, SBR, HAF black, zinc oxide, stearic acid, an antioxidant, disproportionated rosin, a highly aromatic petroleum oil, sulphur, N-oxydiethylene-2-benzothiazylsulphenamide and N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazylsulphenamide.
