867,222. Pneumatic gauging; vernier equivalents. A.E.I.-JOHN THOMPSON NUCLEAR ENERGY CO. Ltd., SHEPHERD, G. H., and STAIT, D. P. March 6, 1958 [March 6, 1957], No. 7424/57. Class 106 (2). A micrometer screw gauge includes a rotatable head 5 having a toothed periphery together with at least one nozzle 8 close to the periphery arranged to direct a fluid jet on to the tooth so that passage of a tooth in front of the nozzle 8 causes a pulse-like pressure rise, and means not shown for counting the pulses. The head 5 rotates with the micrometer spindle. A number of nozzles 8, 9, 10 spaced apart slightly more than the teeth provide a vernier effect, and two additional nozzles 13, 14 provide means for rotating the head 5. Alternatively, the head can be rotated by a torsion-spring or any other reversible means.
