Abstract

Bayerite is prepared by precipitation from aluminium salt solution and the precipitate is washed with a solution prepared from deionized water and having a pH of at least 10. Preferably the precipitation solutions also are prepared from deionized water. In examples bayerite is prepared by reacting solutions of ammonia in deionized water with solutions in deionized water of aluminium sulphate and of aluminium chlorohydrate (basic aluminium chloride), and the precipitates are washed with dilute solutions of ammonia in deionized water and then with deionized water. The bayerite so prepared may be used as a support for a platinum catalyst.
