867,173. Gas burners. ELECTROLUX Ltd. Nov. 18, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 39124/59. Classes 75(1 ) and 75(3). An ignition device for a gas burner, for instance of absorption refrigerating apparatus having a valve for regulating gas flow to the ignition device, has two gas flow paths, the first leading to a pilot light for the burner and the second leading to remote ignition means for the pilot light and the remote ignition means including a flash back ignition tube directed towards the second flow path and formed with openings which communicate with the surrounding air and are distributed over the length of the tube for producing an explosive gas-air mixture in the tube for lighting the pilot light by flash back. Gas from a supply line 15 passes to a ball valve 16 press button controlled to by-pass the main gas supply along a conduit 31 to nozzle openings 33 and 34. The opening 34 supplies gas to one end of the ignition tube 25, a light applied to an opening at the other end ignites the gas and the flash back ignites the gas at the nozzle opening 33, the flame from which heats a safety valve 24, which opens. Gas then flows through a thermostatically controlled valve 19, conduit 23 and the safety valve to the burner 35 where the pilot flame at the nozzle opening 33 ignites it. The push button is then released manually or automatically by means such as movement of the ignition tube to close the valve 16. The series of holes 26 in the ignition tube may be circular or slits.
