Abstract
866,792. Valves. USINES CHAUSSON S. A., DES. Aug. 12, 1957 [Aug. 22, 1956], No. 25370/57. Class 135. A thermally-actuated valve to control the flow to coolant between the cylinder jacket and the radiator of an I.C. engine comprises a valve housing 1 having an inlet 2 from the cylinder jacket, an outlet 3 to the radiator and an outlet 4 to the heat exchanger of an air conditioning system, a movable seat member 5 and a closure member 8 co-operating with the seat and actuated by a thermostat bellows 10. The movable seat member 5 has an extension 6 which acts as a closure member for the outlet 4 when the seat is in the position shown in Fig. 1. Under " summer " conditions the movable seat is positioned as shown, isolating the heat exchanger of the airconditioning system. For " winter " conditions the lever 7 is moved to the position 7a thereby rotating the seat and the closure member to the position 5a. This action opens the outlet 4 to coolant fluid and also displaces upwards the pin 13 causing an extension of the bellows 10. to the position shown at 10a. In consequence the temperature required to expand the bellows to open the valve is raised.
