Abstract
A ceramic is made by heating at 1150 DEG C. to 1300 DEG C. a mixture composed of 20-60% steatite or talc and 8-30% zirconium silicate or oxide together with fluxing and other materials to give a product of the composition in per cent by weight Silica 34,2-54,5; alumina 5,6-8,5; magnesia 15,2-22,1; zirconia 5,3-22,1; baria 7,6-21,2, and other oxides 1,7-2,0. The other materials specified are clay 15-25%; magnesium carbonate 5-15%; and barium carbonate 10-25%.
