Abstract
866,452. Sheathed heating resistors. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. Jan. 10, 1958 [Feb. 20, 1957], No. 1040/58, Class 39(3). [Also in Group XXXVI] A terminal construction for a sheathed wire heating element comprises an insulating bushing 6 spacing the terminal pin 2 at the end of the wire heating resistor from the metal tubular sheath 1; the bushing is soldered at 11 to a sleeve 4 hermetically connected to and constituting an extension of the sheath 1, the bushing being also soldered at its recessed outer end 8 to the terminal pin 2. The bushing is metallised at the areas 7, 10 where it is to be soldered. The copper tube 4 is brazed at 5 to the sheath 1. The bushing 6 extends into the sleeve 4 and is separated from the end of the sheath 1 and the mineral insulant 3 therein by a plug 12 of a deformable insulator, e.g. a silicone elastomer. The exposed surface of the insulant 3, e.g. magnesia, is first impregnated with a silicone oil which is then polymerized at 300‹C. The deformable insulator 12 is then placed in the end of the sheath and compressed by placing over the pin 2 a plug of steatite of the same shape as the bushing 6, whereby part of the insulator 12 is forced to flow to the area 13 at the inner end of the sheath. The steatite plug is removed and the bushing 6 is soldered in place.
