Abstract
Foam rubber sheets are made using the apparatus of the parent Specification modified in that the projections on the former are of electrically conductive material instead of electrically insulating material. The electrostatic field set up by the high frequency source extends between the free ends of the projections and the electrode, thus raising the temperature of the portion of the foamed material overlying the projections. This overlying portion will gel first and stabilise the foam on the drum, thus preventing substantial movement of the foam relative to the drum surface. The rim on the former may also be electrically conductive, this distorting the electrostatic field, however, with the result that the depth of the foam within the field, and heated dielectrically thereby, becomes less the nearer the foam is to the rim and is zero at the rim. Under some circumstances this lack of rapid gelling at the edges of the material is acceptable.
