Abstract

A tampon is made by placing an absorbent sheet in face-to-face relationship with a permeable cover sheet, folding them to form a multi-ply pad, with the cover sheet outside, and compressing the pad into a finished cylindrical shape with the cover sheet extending over the entire cylindrical surface of the tampon. Such a construction allows short-fibred absorbent material, such as crepe paper, to be employed without risk of disintegration. A withdrawal cord is attached in the course of the folding in such a way as to come at one end of the finished tampon, and the opposite end surface of the tampon is preferably left uncovered by the cover sheet.
