Class 64(3) In a heat exchanger in which each of a plurality of plates 5 is suspended on a carrying bar 2 by a bridge piece 1 extending across a U-shaped recess 6 in the plate through which the bar extends, a hole 8 is formed in the plate on each side of the recess 6, the bridge piece engaging the upper edge of the hole and being retained in position relative to the plate either by so displacing a portion 7 of the plate in the vicinity of each hole 8 as shown in Figs. I and 2, that the ends of the bridge piece may be received between the plate proper and the displaced portion or by displacing a portion of the bridge piece 1 at each end thereof so that the plate is held between the main and displaced portions of the bridge piece as shown in Fig. 5.
