Class 40(5) A receiver generates a signal in response to a calling signal from the transmitter, the signal generated at the receiver continuing after cessation of the transmitted calling signal until it is suppressed by manually-operable means in the receiver. A paging system comprises a transmitter 11 which feeds an inductive wire-loop aerial 13 arranged to encircle an area required for communication. Calling signals of frequency particular to the receiver being called are transmitted over aerial 13 and received by the ferrite rod aerial 14 before passing through the audiofrequency amplifier 15 to the band-pass filter 18 and thence to the oscillator 19. Application of the calling signal starts the oscillator which provides an audible alarm by a loudspeaker and continues to oscillate after the removal of the calling signal and until the LT supply is disconnected by the manually operated switch 16. Switch 16 also connects the output of the amplifier to the loadspeaker so that a message transmitted from the central transmitter can be received by the receiver. Signalling may be by electro-magnetic radiation instead of induction.
