Abstract

1409873 Electric selective signalling BELLING & LEE Ltd 15 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 43549/71 Heading G4H A system for establishing communication between a monitor station 7, Fig. 3 and any of a plurality of calling stations 5, Fig. 2 connected to a common signal network, comprises, at each station 5, means responsive to a manually operable switch for generating and infecting into the network a unique identifying radiofrequency call signal and, at station 7, means 20-22 responsive to the call signal to identify it and provide an alarm signal. As described the network is an entertainment network connected to old people's dwellings 5. Oscillator 11 is caused to apply a unique frequency to the network when a button or switch 5a is actuated during an emergency; additionally the call signal may be generated automatically in response to, e.g. temperature conditions in the dwelling. Also the call signal may be coded. Upon receipt of the call signal, receiver 20 in a warden's flat 7 causes a bell 8 to ring and may also operate a visual alarm 22b, the receiver also incorporating means for establishing the identity of the dwelling 5 sending the signal. The warden then energizes speech circuits 13- 14, 5b in that dwelling by transmitting a unique signal thereto using a dial 23 to pulse the output from a transceiver 24. Verbal communication can now take place over a RF link including microphone/loudspeaker units 5b, 25. A pressto-speak key 27 is included at the warden's flat, and the apparatus may be designed so that only actuation thereof will suppress the audible alarm until the alarm switch in dwelling 5 has been reset.
