Abstract
865,078. Parachutes. ETUDES ET FABRICATIONS AERONAUTIQUES. Feb. 26,1959, No. 6674/59. Class 4. A parachute pack is formed wholly from flexible material and has a main compartment for the canopy and two lateral auxiliary compartments, which extend along the sides to house the rigging lines. The pack comprises a main compartment formed by a forward wall 1 having two lateral longitudinal flaps 2, 3 and two transverse upper and lower flaps 4 and 5 secured in their closed positions by conventional locking cones 6 released manually or automatically by a cable release mechanism 13. The upper and lower edges of wall, 1 have secured thereto a plurality of flaps 26 and 27 respectively which are alternately laid between the folds in the parachute canopy C and secured by frangible ties 29 to prevent the canopy from sagging within the pack and to facilitate its deployment. The assembly described carries two lateral extensions 16 and 17 which provide two auxiliary compartments II and III each communicating freely with the compartment I. The rigging lines are folded at 23 in compartment II within a pocketed band 23a and then they extend at 24 in the lower part of compartment I and are then folded at 25 in compartment III to finally extend to the peripheral edge of canopy C.
