[Class 4] A parachute pack carried by an aviator comprises a container into which the canopy and shroud lines are packed, the container being secured to the aircraft by a flexible member or static line and the canopy having a frangible connection to an anchorage within the pack which is closed by a permanently attached flap having means for retaining the shroud lines upon it. The parachute canopy 22 is packed in the upper end of a rectangular container 10 and the shroud lines are tucked into tapes 20 on a flap 12 which is afterwards rolled up and pushed into the open end of the container where it is retained by frangible cords threaded through loops 18, 19 formed on straps 13 extending around the container. The strap 14 acting as a static cord is secured to the straps 13 where they cross. A flap 26 having a loop 27 is secured to a loop 28 on the inner side of the container by another frangible cord to support the canopy clear of the rolled flap 12. The completed pack is placed in an outer casing detachably secured to the aviator's harness, this casing having four flaps 34-36, Fig. 4, which are folded over the completed pack and secured by a frangible cord 40 passed through eyelets on the flaps and through a loop 17 formed on the strap 14. Normally, the strap 14 is folded and tucked into elastic-mouthed pockets 37, 38. Before jumping the strap 14 is withdrawn from the pockets and secured to the aircraft, after which the aviator's weight successively causes the breaking of the cords 40, the withdrawal of the pack from the casing, which remains attached to the harness, the unrolling of the flap 12 and withdrawal of the shroud lines, the withdrawal of the canopy and finally the severing of a cord which attaches the apex of the canopy to a strap depending from the inside of the upper end of the container 10.
