864,804. Detachable axle assemblies. RAMUN, M. May 27, 1959, No. 18017/59. Class 108(2). A detachable spring and axle assembly 10 comprises an axle 34 having a pair of spring receiving boxes 36 at either end. The boxes 36 have a forwardly directed opening which receives the ends of leaf springs 38. The leaf springs 38 are attached to a bolster 39 which is connected to the axle by stabilizing rods 44 and torque rods 47. The detachable axle may be supported when it is detached from a vehicle by telescoping members 60, 61. To attach the detachable axle to a vehicle 11, the vehicle is backed up to the axle when a bolster plate 22 rides over the top of the bolster 39. A king pin 24 attached to the bolster plate engages in a recess in the bolster 39 and is held there by means of a hook. The forward ends of the leaf springs 38 are received in boxes 25 attached to an axle 16. The axle assembly is located laterally by lugs 23 on the vehicle which engage in recesses in the bolster and by the sides of the spring receiving boxes 25, 36.
