864,789. Applying cigarette mouthpieces. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. July 12, 1957, No. 22249/57. Class 130. Stationary spring wires 48, 50, bearing in grooves of a rotary suction drum 42, feed uniting bands B smoothly from the drum 42 to assemblies 22 of double-length mouthpieces and flanking cigarette rod lengths in nests of rollers 12, 14 on a drum 10, suction cut-off being simultaneously effected by the termination of a cut-out 56 in a stationary internal shoe 58 of the drum 42. Initial wrapping of the bands B is effected by rotation of the assemblies 22, directly by sponge rubber rollers 60, 62 and indirectly by rotation of the rollers 12, 14 by belts 30, 32, and final wrapping by further sponge rubber rollers (not shown). The assemblies 22 are retained in the roller nests by guides 38, 40. The drum 10 may be continuously or intermittently rotated.
