Abstract

864,535. Sewing machines. ANKERPHOENIX NAHMASCHINEN A. G. Oct. 11, 1957 [Oct. 11, 1956], No. 31908/57. Class 112 In a zig-zag sewing machine an embroidery frame movable in two directions at right angles to each other is connected to a sensing element which can be guided along a pattern, and an adjusting element provided on the sensing element is operatively connected to the stitchwidth adjusting lever of the machine. The adjusting element may be moved by hand, or may terminate in a sensing element also engagable with the pattern for varying the stitch width automatically. As shown, a flat bar 2 is secured by a screw 3 to the sewing machine cloth plate, and carries externally of the latter a frame 22 containing a pattern plate 30. One arm of a rightangled bar 11 is connected by pivotal links 7, 8 to bar 2, and the other arm is connected by pivotal links 12, 13 to an embroidery frame 19 carried at one end of a bar 18. The other end of the latter carries a rivet 20 on which is pivoted a guide element 21 having a point 28 adapted to follow or sense one edge or side of recessed pattern 29 formed in plate 30. Also pivoted on rivet 20 is an adjusting element 21a having a sensing point 28 adapted to engage the opposite edge of pattern 29. An extension 21<SP>1</SP> of element 21 is connected to one end of a Bowden cable sheath 23, the other end of which is connected to a bracket 24 fixed by a screw 24a to the machine frame. An extension 27 of element 21a is connected to one end of the Bowden wire 23a, the other end of which is connected to the stitch-width adjusting lever 26. A spring 31 interposed between members 21<SP>1</SP> and 27 biases the sensing points 28<SP>1</SP>, 28<SP>11</SP> against their respective edges of the pattern 29, and a weaker spring 32 interposed between bracket 24 and lever 26 tensions the wire 23a.
