Abstract

864,363. Electrically heated kettles. FORDHAM PRESSINGS Ltd. Sept. 7, 1959 [Oct. 28, 1958], No. 34432/58. Class 39(3). A liquid-tight fitting for an electric heater in a kettle of thermoplastic material (particularly the kettle described in Specification 840,567) is provided by means of a sleeve 11, Fig. 3. which is inwardly flanged at its inner end 112 and has an annula projection 113 (intermediate its ends 111, 112) bevelled inwards at 116 to accommodate the lower wall A<SP>1</SP> of the kettle. The lower half of the kettle is moulded round the sleeve 11 and the assembly is removed from the mould whilst the kettle is in a plastic state. In this way when a locking ring 13 is tightly screwed on to sleeve end 111 the wall A<SP>1</SP> is dovetailed into the region 116 between the ring 13 and projection 113. Alternatively, this projection may be provided with one or more annular slots 117, Fig. 4, into which the plastic wall of the kettle is pressed by ring 13. The heating element is threaded through sleeve 11 so that its base block abuts against resilient washer 14, the base block being held in place by means of a protective collar which is screwed into the internally threaded bore 115 of the sleeve 11. The upper part of the kettle is seam welded on to the base.
