Abstract

864,113. Moulding soles on to footwear uppers. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd., and BELL, N. I. July 11, 1957 [July 13, 1956], No. 21660/56. Class 87(2). A shoe sole moulding machine has a pair of side moulds arranged to fit closely against the opposite sides of a shoe S, one of the side moulds 2 supporting a separate mould portion 12 for engaging an end portion of the shoe and the other side mould carrying an actuating member 24 for moving the separate portion 12 relative to the side moulds, lengthwise of the shoe, as the side moulds approach the shoe, thus causing the portion 12 to press against the end of the shoe. In the illustrative arrangement described, the portion 12 is pivotally supported on a pin 10 secured in the side mould 2 low down at the toe end and is held in an outwardly canted, inoperative position by means of a torsion spring 16 when the side moulds are separated. A rounded cam face 22 cut into the mould portion 12 engages with the actuating member 24 as the side moulds close and thus the portion 12 swings lengthwise of the shoe into pressing engagement with the toe of the shoe. A slot 26 cut in the portion 12 is engaged by a stop pin 28 fixed to the side mould 2 in order to suitably limit the rocking movement of the portion 12. The actuating member 24, which takes the form of a round-headed pin, may have its head formed eccentrically with respect to its shank so that by adjusting the position of the shank, the instant during the approach of the side moulds at which the head engages the cam face 22, and hence the operative position of the mould portion 12, can be varied.
