Abstract
540,704. Shoe-filling machine. POCHIN, H. W., DOVE, G. H., and BROMLEY, J. H. Aug. 12, 1940, No. 12896. [Class 17 (i)] A machine for spreading and compressing the plastic filler used in filling the cavity in a shoe bottom formed by the upper when lasted over the insole comprises a power-operated member which is caused to travel with a rolling motion over the surface of the shoe bottom. A sector l having an electrically heated platen n of brass secured thereto is pivoted at k to a link i actuated by a crank h, the pivot k being guided in a track m. The sector l is also pivoted to a link p secured at its other end to the frame of the machine. The crank is driven by gearing from an electric motor and performs one revolution for each depression of a treadle u. A support for the fore part of the shoe is spring supported, its uppermost position being adjustable. The support engages the toe end and instep of the shoe and rests on rollers and a turned boss so that the shoe is self-adjusting to the platen. The pressure may be varied as the rolling action progresses over the shoe bottom, e.g. by making the face of the sector eccentric to its pivot.
