Feb. 11, 1932, No. 4042. [Class 17 (i). Trimming.-A shoe supporting form, especially for use in rounding and/or channelling by machine soles on shoes, but partly fills the forepart of the shoe heightwise, supports the upper adjacent to the sole against external guiding pressure, is expansible laterally to fit different shoes and has a slidable heel-piece for adjustment of length. Side members 12, 14 pivoted at 16 provide a laterally-expansible frame and carry at their free ends, with limited tip and limited swing about pivots 30, form members 32, 34 shaped to conform to the inside and outside contours of the internal surface of the shoe bottom. Similar devices with oppositely-shaped forms are used for the two shoes of a pair. A screw 20 carries a resilient member 48 adapted to engage the shoe upper to hold the form against the shoe bottom, limited play being allowed by upturned flanges 50. A heel piece 40 has a stem 38 slidable freely through lugs 42 and held against inward movement by a spring clutch 44. A finger-piece 26 is secured to a slide carrying a cam 24 comprising an upturned flange inclined to the side member 12 for engaging a member carried by the member 14 to spread the form members into form engagement with the sides of the upper.
