Abstract

656,987. Boots &c. CLARK, Ltd., C. &J., and GRAVES, A. L. Jan. 24, 1949, No. 1866. [Class 17(ii)] An insole 1 is channelled as shown at 3 to accommodate the overlasted margin 10 of an upper 9 particularly where it is puckered at the forepart, and thus dispense with bottom filling. The channel is spaced inwards from the edge 2 of the insole so as to leave a rim 4 of uniform width round the forepart of the insole to provide a firm backing to the bend 12 of the upper at the edge of the last during the lasting of the upper and the laying of the sole. The margin 10 is consolidated after lasting so that it is not proud of the central area of the insole and direct contact between the centres of insole and outsole is ensured but, if necessary, the outsole may be reduced in thickness at the edge leaving a step in line with the inner edge of the channel 3.
