Abstract

863,996. Plug-in circuit assembly. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 16, 1959 [Feb. 28, 1958], No. 6579/58. Class 37. A printed circuit board holder is provided with one or more contact carriers, each having a slot for accommodating a printed circuit board, and carrying a plurality of contacts which engage with circuit lines printed on the board. The carriers are mounted in the holder so that they are a tight fit in a direction parallel to their slots, but fit more loosely in a direction perpendicular to the slots. As shown, holders 1 are arranged to carry a number of contact carriers 2, each having a slot 3 in which is located the contacts 4. The carriers may move laterally, in the direction 5, but are prevented from longitudinal movement by keys such as 7 which pass through the slots 9 in the holder to engage with lateral slots 10 in the carriers. The holders have grooved limbs 12, 13 for guiding the cards into the contact carriers, limb 13 being longer than limb 12 for ease of assembly. To prevent incorrect insertion of a printed circuit board, tongue 11 may be provided to engage with the board. A number of holders may be formed into one assembly by means of threaded rods 16, 17 which pass through holes 14, 15 in the carrier and terminal plates 20 may be provided at the end.
