Abstract
863,918. Spindle retaining means. KEYSER, J.J. Dec. 9, 1958 [July 7, 1958], No. 39579/58. Class 120(2) Holding-down means for a spinning or twisting spindle comprises two members, one rigid and the other a flexible annular disc, both members being housed within either the spindle top or the fixed base in such manner that the spindle top may be secured or released by an exclusively axial motion. The flexible member is preferably supported on one side against a shoulder and the rigid member shaped so that withdrawal of the spindle top requires a greater force than its replacement. In Fig. 1, a groove 9 in the spindle base 3 carries the disc 10 which cooperates with a lip 7 on the whorl 2 of the spindle top. In Fig. 3 the base 3 carries the disc 17 above a neck bearing 4 and a frusto-conical part 14 of the spindle top forms the rigid member. In Fig. 5 the disc 21 is mounted between two rigid discs 22, 23 on the base 3 and co-operates with the part 20 of the spindle top positioned above a footstep bearing 5. In all embodiments the disc may be mounted on the spindle top and the rigid member on the base. The members may serve as sealing or guard elements to prevent penetration of dust or discharge of lubricant.
