863,757. Mounting electric motors. TOKHEIM CORPORATION. Sept. 2, 1958 [Sept. 19, 1957], No. 28158/58. Class 35. [Also in Group XXVI] The driving motor 11 of a submersible centrifugal fuel pump 10 has a depending skirt 80 into which the upper end of the pump is inserted, securing tongues 82 then being bent inwardly into openings 84 formed in four posts 108 of the pump casting. The pump is driven through a magnetic coupling similar to that described in Specification 818,921 and comprising annular magnets 64, 126 separated by the imperforate end wall 44 of the motor casing. The motor is built to a wide tolerance range in respect of its load-speed characteristic, and the load on the motor is adjusted by a corresponding variation in the number of laminations used in building up the laminated impeller 160 and stator 140 of the pump, whereby the speed, and hence the discharge pressure of the pump, are kept to a narrow tolerance range.
