Abstract
863,351. Coating electric lamp envelopes. LUMALAMPEN A.B. Aug. 17, 1959 [Aug. 27, 1958], No. 28068/59. Class 39(2). The inside surfaces of electric lamp envelopes are provided with a light diffusing coating by etching with hydrofluoric acid and immediately thereafter depositing a coating of light diffusing particles on the etched surface, or by simultaneously etching and applying the light diffusing coating. In carrying out the process, a stream of hydrogen mixed with the material for producing the particles. e.g. titanium and/or silicon tetrachloride is burnt in a stream of oxygen mixed with hydrofluoric acid. A device of the type described in Specification 704,189 may be used for injecting the gases. Alternatively, gasified ethyl alcohol mixed with air or oxygen may be used for producing the requisite heat and the particle forming material may be powdered silicon, easily combustible metal powders or other compounds such as ethyl orthosilicate which burn into substantially pure oxides.
