Abstract

863,146. Electric correspondence control systems. ZELLWEGER Ltd. Oct. 14, 1958 [Jan. 9, 1958], No. 32771/58. Class 40 (1). [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL (b)] Textile material 9 (Fig. 1), is fed sequentially through a measuring device 1, giving a voltage U 1 indicative of the distributed weight per unit length of the material, a first pair of drafting rollers 7, 8 driven at a constant speed n 2 , and a second pair of drafting rollers 5, 6 driven at a variable speed n 3 determined partly by the signal U 1 , so that the weight per unit length of the material after leaving the rollers is constant. The speed n 2 is reduced by the average drafting factor by gears 10, 11 to speed n 1 , which is compared with the constant speed n 2 in a differential gear 12, and produces a signal U 3 from potentiometer 16 indicative of the speed difference, which at 2 is algebraically added to signal U 1 from the measuring device 1, fed through a delay circuit 30, and a rate signal U 5 from tachogenerator 31, to control the drive motor 4 for rollers 5, 6. Long term variations cause the slider 17 to move to one end of potentiometer 16 to close alarm circuits at 20 or 21. In one modification (Fig. 2, not shown), potentiometer 16 acts as one branch of a bridge with a ratio determined by the position of slider 17, the measuring device 1 being one of the other arms, whereby the bridge unbalance voltage is a combination of signals U 1 and U 3 . In a further modification potentiometer 16 is replaced by a variable capacitor. The measuring device 1 is preferably in the form of a test capacitor with the material 9 as its dielectric. In one embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the quality of the material 9 is determined by the light (or other radiation) reacting a first photo-cell 29 from a lamp 28 through the material, which is balanced by corresponding movement of a vane 25 between the lamp 28 and a second photo-cell 24 to produce the required control signals. Specification 816,375 is referred to.
