Abstract

816,375. Automatic weight control systems. ZELIWEGER Ltd.,USTER FACTORIES FOR APPARATUS AND MACHINES. Dec. 29, 1955 [Dec. 31, 1954], No. 37288/55. Class 38 (4). [Also in Groups IX, XXXVI and XL (b)] In order to produce a more uniform strip of textile material, for example a draw sliver, the material is drawn through a measuring-device, the instantaneous output of which indicates the weight of the material passing through the device at any instant, a second output is determined from the first by averaging the first over a period of time, the second output is then subtracted from the first to produce a third output representing deviations from the average and controlling the angular speed of a pair of drafting rollers. As shown, textile material 5 is fed by a pair of rollers 19, 20 rotating at constant speed through a gauge 4, two pairs of drafting rollers 21, 22 and 23, 24 and a guide 27, and is then deposited in a can 29. The device 4 comprises a pair of plates constituting a condenser, the capacitance of which varies with the weight of textile between the plates. The condenser is connected in an A.C. bridge circuit 2 which is balanced in the absence of the textile and which, when the textile is present feeds an output to rectifier 6 and high-pass filter circuit 7. The filter circuit gives an output indicative of the variations in the textile weight but independent of long-term variations caused by instabilities of the measuring device itself. The output is amplified at 10 and used to control motor 11 which, through a differential gear 14 alters the drive and thus the speed of drafting rollers 23, 24. The gauge may be actuated behind the rollers and may be of the type relying on the attenuation by the textile of a beam of light passing to a photo-electric cell.
