Abstract

Diglycidyl terephthalate is prepared by epoxidising diallyl terephthalate with peracetic acid. In an example diallyl terephthalate is prepared by reacting allyl alcohol with dimethyl terephthalate in the presence of sodium allyloxide, and is mixed with a cation-exchange resin and glacial acetic acid. Hydrogen peroxide is added followed by heating, the resin is removed by filtration and the filtrate is passed into aqueous sodium chloride and the product is washed with aqueous sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate solutions and water to give diglycidyl terephthalate.
