Abstract

862,511. Hinges and pivots; spring clips; catch fastenings. F.T. PRODUCTS Ltd. Feb. 6, 1959 [Feb. 12, 1958], No. 4631/58. Classes 44 and 65(2). A hinging device, Fig. 5, for connecting two members 30, 33 is made from a single strip of resilient material and comprises a U-shaped portion 20-23 embracing the edge of the member 30 and an open loop having flat portions 27, 28 and a curved flange 29 which co-operate, respectively, with the edge of the member 33 and with a slot 38 in the member to constitute a hinge. The device makes frictional contact with the member 33. and, in virtue of its resilience, tends to spring the member 30, which may be a printed circuit panel, towards either its fully open or fully closed position. The position of the "dead centre" may be varied by a suitable choice of the shape, size and strength of the device. At least one limb of the U is formed with prongs 24, 25 to grip the member 30, and recesses 35, 37 are formed in the members to locate the device. A catch, Fig. 3, made from a single strip of spring metal, is also provided.
