Abstract

862,307. Salting fish; injection apparatus. DYEKJAER, J. C. C. Dec. 7, 1959 [Sept. 8, 1958], No. 28807/58. Class 49. A machine for salting fish (Fig. 3) comprises a pump 11 which carries supersaturated salt solution from a storage tank 12 having a stirrer 16, through a filter 10, a threeway valve 9, a conduit 8 and a tube 7 to a distributing chamber 1 equipped with stirrers 3 and having cannula needles 2, with acute-angled ends, located in its base which penetrate and inject the salt solution into fish placed upon a perforated conveyer belt 21 located between the needles 2 and a support 18 provided with wheels 19 running on rails 20. The distributing chamber, needle assembly and a motor 6, which drives the stirrer 3 through a belt 5 and pulley 4, are together pivotally suspended on a shaft 17 mounted on the support 18 and in operation are lowered so that the needles 2 penetrate the fish, the assembly moving at constant speed along with the conveyer belt 21 and being thereafter lifted and returned to inject a fresh batch of fish placed on the conveyer belt 21 in the meantime. A scraper 23 actuated by springs 24 prevents fish being lifted from the conveyer belt and whilst the assembly is being lifted and returned, the salt solution is bypassed through the valve 9 and a pipe 13 to the storage tank 12; or, alternatively, the distributing chamber on return may be adapted to inject fishes on a conveyer belt moving in a direction opposite to the first. The apparatus may also comprise several distributing chambers. In the embodiment shown (Fig. 5), the distributing chamber consists of a rotatably mounted cylinder 30 the whole surface of which is provided with needles 2 which penetrate and inject fish placed on a conveyer belt 38 which advances at a speed equal to the peripheral speed of the cylinder 30.
