Abstract

862,259. Automatic circuit breakers. MECHANICAL PRODUCTS Inc. May 12, 1959 [June 9, 1958], No. 16279/59. Class 38 (5). A circuit breaker has two series hot wires 302 (only one shown) connected at 316 by a first order lever or a single wire arranged around a pulley to be equivalent to two series wires. A spring 384 tensions the wires and when they expand is allowed to move arm 370 of catch 362 to release the contact assembly 324 whereupon plunger 326 is urged downwardly by spring 346. Lower plunger 338 also moves downwardly when the roller catch 352 releases, and the breaker is manually actuated by pulling knob 340 down to release the catch 352 and thus to allow both plungers to move downwardly. The breaker is trip free and cannot be reset by pushing in knob 340 until the wires have cooled sufficiently to allow the catch 362 to engage the contact assembly 324 and thus to pivot the assembly about the centre pivot when fixed contact 312 and moving contact 322 can be pushed together by the movement of the knob 340. Specification 848,522 is referred to.
