Abstract

A composition suitable for treating polyamide fibres comprises an aqueous emulsion of a uniform polyamide, e.g. polycaprolactam or polyhexamethylene adipamide, and a linear polyester produced from a dihydric alcohol and a dibasic acid, e.g. succinic acid-glycol-polyester, in an organic acid or alcoholic solvent. The solvent may be formic or acetic acid or an alcoholic solution of calcium chloride, phenol or chloral hydrate. Softeners, e.g. sulphonated fat, antistatic agents, emulsifiers and dyestuffs may be mixed with the water prior to formation of the emulsion.ALSO:The water-absorption capacity of synthetic linear polyamide fibres or filaments and textiles made therefrom is improved by treatment with an aqueous emulsion, the emulsified phase of which comprises a uniform polyamide, e.g. polycaprolactam or polyhexamethylene adipamide, a linear polyester produced from a dihydric alcohol and a dibasic acid, e.g. succinic acidglycol polyester, and an organic acid or alcoholic solvent. The solvent may be formic or acetic acid or an alcoholic solution of calcium chloride, phenol or chloral hydrate. Softeners, e.g. sulphonated fat, antistatic agents, emulsifiers and dyestuffs may be mixed with the water prior to formation of the emulsion. The fibres, filaments or textiles may be dried at temperatures of at least 100 DEG C. Hosiery made from polyamide yarn may be treated.
