Abstract
861,842. Glow plugs. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. June 9, 1959 [June 27, 1958], No. 19639/59. Class 7(4). A glow plug for internal combustion engines comprises a non-sealing metal sleeve fitted into a longitudinal bore of a plug casing and carrying a glow resistance wire or filament, the metal sleeve being fitted by means of radially applied pressure so as to form a gastight and firm joint with the plug casing. In Fig. 1 the portion 1 is reduced, after insertion of the glow pin sleeve 2, by swaging, so that a gastight joint is formed between the casing and the sleeve. In Fig. 2 the sleeve 2 is firmly pressed in a steel bush 11 which is itself pressed into a recess in the casing. The connector pin 3 is provided with a thread 13 carrying a knurled clampingnut. Alocknut 15 held in position by caulking presses through an insulating washer 16 against an insulating bush 17. In a modification a steel bush is pushed over the non- sealing metal sleeve and then connected with the same by an annular brazed joint. The parts are then pressed into a recess in the casing and held firmly therein so as to form a gas-tight joint.
