Abstract

861,258. Electric furnaces. KODAK Ltd. March 16, 1959 [Dec. 30, 1958], No. 10433/58. Class 39 (3). A heating. element for an electric furnace consists of a cage of graphite rods 6 supported between graphite end rings made up of ancuate busbar members 5. The rods.6 6 are screwed at one end into the members 5 and at the other end are screwed by graphite nuts 8 and 9 screwed on to the rods. The cage is supported by terminal posts 10 which are screwed by screw and nut connections 11. The. terminal posts 10 pass through vacuum seals in the furnace chamber and the ends of the posts are water cooled. The cage may be supported horizontally or vertically and may be surrounded by a radiation shield as described in Specification 861,257. The busbar members 5 at the opposite ends of the cage, may be angularly displaced with respect to one another as shown, and energized in delta connection, or one end ring may be unbroken and the busbar members energized in star connection. According to the Provisional Specification the graphite rods may be a push fit in the busbar members.
