Abstract

861,179. Discharge lamp circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1958 [Dec. 11, 1957; Feb. 26, 1958], Nos. 38553/57 and 6184/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). A circuit for supplying one or more discharge lamps having heatable electrodes has the electrode heating circuit electrically independent of the discharge circuit, both circuits being controlled by arranged switches so that the heating circuit is closed before the discharge circuit. The switches may be closed by a time switch. The electrode and discharge circuits may be operated by master switches with an individual switch at each lamp to control the discharge current where a plurality of lamps are employed. The discharge current may be fed from a D.C. supply such as the traction supply when the circuit is used in train lighting systems. The lamps may be enclosed in a fitting having restricted ventilation to reduce the electrophonesis effect on D.C.
