Abstract

861,124. Magnetic pulse-gating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 22, 1957 [March 23, 1956], No. 9150/56. Class 40 (9). In a magnetic gate comprising a core having a rectangular hysteresis characteristic, input pulses are applied to one or more windings A and bias and control pulses to a winding B, the input and bias pulses being applied simultaneously and having opposite magnetizing effects so that a core is switched from one remanent state to the other only when input pulses are absent. Each bias pulse is immediately followed by a control pulse of opposite polarity which restores a switched core to its initial remanent state, the magnetization reversals inducing outputs in an associated output winding C. The sequence of pulses applied to windings A and B, and the induced outputs in winding C are shown in Fig. 4. An AND gate is described, Fig. 2 (not shown), in which four input windings A and the bias/control and output windings B, C are associated with an apertured core which may comprise an element of a multi-apertured ferrite block as described in Specification 760,048, outputs being induced only when input pulses to all four windings are simultaneously absent. An OR gate is shown in Fig. 5 comprising cores 10, 11, 12 having common bias/control and output windings B, C and individual input windings A1, A2, A3, outputs being produced when one or more input pulses are absent. A two-out-of-three gate having input windings A1, A2, A3 common to pairs of cores 5, 6, 7, is shown in Fig. 6. A modified AND gate with two inputs A1, A2 is also described, Fig. 7, in which an inhibit winding I, when energized, neutralizes core switching by the bias. Specification 760,047 also is referred to.
