Abstract
854,558. Circuits employing bi-stable magnetic elements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 26, 1959, No. 6658/59. Class 40 (9). A sinusoidal triggering wave, curve A, Fig. 3, is applied from a source 10, Fig. 1, to input windings 4, 5 and 6 on magnetic cores 1, 2 and 3 having substantially rectangular hysteresis characteristics, the cores each having a different number of input winding turns or a different flux path length so that they are triggered from one remanent state to the other in turn and induce successive pulses in their respective output windings 7, 8 and 9. A load 13 is common to the output windings, and the successive triggering of the cores by the sinusoidal wave establishes pulse trains of alternate polarity, curve B, Fig. 3, in the load. The core differences are graded so that the pulses in the trains are equally spaced, as shown. The cores 1 and 3 may also be biased in opposite respects by windings 15, 16 and a D.C. source 17, in which case the pulses generated in one half cycle of the alternating wave are brought closer together, curve C, Fig. 3, and the pulses of opposite polarity in the succeeding half wave are spaced further apart. In a modification the core 2 is omitted and the output winding 9 is connected in the opposite sense to winding 7. By suitably adjusting the bias, it can be arranged that the output pulses from the two cores are in coincidence and therefore neutralize each other in one half cycle, curve D, Fig. 3, while two spaced pulses of opposite polarity are generated in the succeeding half cycle. The duration of each output pulse is stated to be determined by the thickness of the core material.
