Abstract
776,076. Static induction and apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 5, 1954 [Aug. 8, 1953], No. 22791/54. Class 38 (2). [Also in Groups XIX and XXXIX] In a device comprising input and output windings 2, 3, Fig. 3, which are coupled by a magnetic circuit 1 having high retentivity and a hysteresis loop shaped like a parallelogram but not rectangular, the voltages induced in the output winding by excursions of flux between the retention level of magnetization 11, Fig. 2, and the saturation level 13 in response to a magnetizing current pulse i, in the input winding are neutralized by opposing voltages of equal magnitude derived from the output winding 6 of a similarly constructed correcting device which has a low retentivity magnetic circuit 4. Only those transient induced voltages which have a magnitude determined by 13-12 and result from a reversal of magnetic polarity by a pulse are then effective at the output terminals CD, and the arrangement is thus functionally similar to a basic device in which the hysteresis loop of the magnetic circuit is substantially rectangular. The pulses must act simultaneously in winding 2 and in the input winding 5 of the correcting device, these windings preferably being connected in series as shown although they may be separately energized from synchronous sources. A single correcting device may be common to a number of basic devices, Fig. 5 (not shown), or to the cores 1<SP>1</SP>-9<SP>1</SP> of a matrix memory device, Fig. 6. In the latter case the correcting device neutralizes spurious outputs which arise from flux changes in unselected cores, the input winding 11 being connected in series with either all the column or row windings or with both as shown, while the output winding 12 is in series with the read-out winding 13. A correcting device comprising input and output windings 16, 17, Fig. 10, may also be used to increase the effectiveness of a non-contactmaking relay comprising a saturable transformer controlled over a winding 14.
