860,591. Valves. HEAP, O. H. June 18, 1959 [June 18, 1958; March 11, 1959], Nos. 19427/58 and 8323/59. Class 135. A drinking trough particularly for poultry is suspended at one end from a fixed hook (not shown) and at the other end from a hook 20 carried by a lever 12 pivoted at 13 engaging a valve stem 11. The valve head 9 coacts with a seat 10 in a sleeve 5 to which the water supply pipe 8 is connected. The sleeve 5 has a spigot 4 which is retained in a hole 3 in a bracket 1 by a thumbscrew (not shown) permitting removal of the sleeve 5 with automatic closure of the valve so that the trough can be removed for cleaning without the necessity for turning off the water supply. The lever 12, which is of trough shape and has a baffle chamber 17 surrounding the spigot 4 and opening to a pipe 18 that leads to the trough, is supported remote from its pivot by a spring 16 and carries a safety catch 21 to prevent inadvertent detachment of the trough from the hook 20. The sleeve 5 has a filter 22 and may, alternatively, consist of two parts screwed together and retaining between them a stainless steel seat for a loose ball valve. The bracket 1 is adjustably mounted on a pillar (not shown) so that its height above the ground can be varied.
