Abstract

860,570. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems; valves. EMCO BRASS MFG. CO. Ltd. June 19, 1959 [July 14, 1958], No. 22486/58. Class 135. Apparatus for automatically closing the liquid flow control valve described in Specification 803,738 when the liquid level in a tank being filled by the valve reaches a desired level, includes a Venturi discharge nozzle 54 in the outlet 3 connected on its expansion side by a duct 55 to a flexible U tube 56 whose shorter limb opens into a chamber 52 closed by a diaphragm 47 and longer limb extends downwardly at its end to the desired filling level of the tank. The diaphragm 47 is urged upwardly by a spring 51 and connected to a valve piston 43 slidable in a cylinder 40 having connections 41, 42 with the balancing and valve chambers 5, 4 respectively. Normally the valve piston 43 closes the connection 42 to cut off communication between the chambers. After the opening of the valve on the rotation of a cock 24 to bring cock and cover ports 29, 30 into alignment to expel liquid from the balancing chamber previously admitted thereto through a bleed line 18, the outflowing liquid passing through the Venturi 54 sucks air through the duct 55 and tube 56. When the end 57 of the tube 56 is closed by the level of liquid in the tank, suction in the tube causes downward movement of the diaphragm 47 and the valve piston 43 to open communication between the valve and balancing chambers to close the valve even although the cock 24 is in valve open position.
