Abstract

860,492. Fifth wheel couplings. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. April 27, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 21006/58. Class 103(5). A fifth wheel coupling part 3 on a tractor is pivoted transversely thereon and has a rear edge 5 which when the uncoupled tractor is backed engages with a forward edge 11 of a coupling part 10 on a tanker trailer. The trailer coupling part comprises ball bearing members 7, 8 and a hollow frame 9 integral with the plate 10, and in the coupled up position a fuel line 12 on the trailer is connected to a line 12a and a pump connection 13 on the tractor. In a modification the frame 9 may form a liquid tight tank and line connections may be mounted thereon.
